Copyright Deposit and Recordation Process

  1. 01

    Application Intake and Case Opening

When TPTLA receives the applicant's materials for private deposit and recordation, it records receipt and opens a case file without delay.

  2. 02

    Fee Verification

TPTLA verifies that all required fees have been paid. If payment is complete, the application proceeds to preliminary review. If an outstanding balance remains, the applicant is notified, and review begins after the balance has been paid.

  3. 03

    Preliminary Review

Following case opening, the application undergoes preliminary review. The next step depends on the review outcome:

    • Approved: The application proceeds to secondary review.
    • Corrections Required: The application is returned with a notice identifying the required corrections. Once the corrections have been completed and resubmitted, the application re-enters preliminary review.
  4. 04

    Secondary Review

An application that passes preliminary review proceeds to secondary review. The next step depends on the review outcome:

    • Approved: The application proceeds to entry in the Association's register and preparation of the private Recordation Certificate.
    • Corrections Required: The secondary review panel consults with the preliminary reviewer, and the application is returned with a correction notice. After correction and resubmission, the application re-enters preliminary review.
  5. 05

    Register Entry and Certificate Preparation

Following final approval, the record will be entered in the Association’s register, and the Copyright Deposit and Recordation Certificate will be prepared for issuance.

  6. 06

    Certificate Issuance

The Copyright Deposit and Recordation Certificate, together with the payment receipt, will be issued and sent to the applicant.

  7. 07

    File Compilation and Archiving

The deposit and recordation materials will be cataloged and compiled into two sets of files, which will be archived separately at different locations.
